Admiring Gong Li is a fan site and has no official connection with Gong Li or her representatives. Site's Mission: To expose more movie-goers to Gong Li's wonderful work in film and personal achievements. (Gong is her family name; Li is her familiar name.) I am pleased that this site was acknowledged on Gong Li's official Chinese blog.

I have been an admirer of Gong Li's work for many years. She is a uniquely gifted actress who continues to impress with her diversity. As has been noted by others: "Gong Li is an exceptional actress whose screen presence and range of extreme emotions far exceeds her contemporaries." (Clare Norton-Smith of BBC) "Few faces in the world can command the screen like China's Gong Li. Beauty aside, the world-renowned actress can express a wider range of emotion in a single close-up than most actors can over an entire film." (Alan Tong, Exclaim.ca)

I also admire the way in which she has used her fame. She has spoken out against censorship of the arts and chosen roles that bring to light certain situations in her native country. In her role as a democratic member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (1998-2007), she has introduced several proposals on education, the environment, and establishing a film ratings system. As Marc Riboud wrote for the UK Sunday Times, "It is difficult for Westerners to understand the significance of an actress called Gong Li and a small group of courageous Chinese film-makers who play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an army of censors." In 2005, Gong Li was deservedly named one of the Top 10 most influential people in 100 years of Chinese film history. She has certainly earned my respect for her efforts, in both the film and humanitarian arenas.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Gong Li, and I can assure fans that she is as lovely, kind and gracious as one could hope.
